Swinging 'fore' the fences: 12th annual Mike O'Daniel golf tourney continues Indian baseball tradition, support
Even with a new venue for this year's tournament, the 12th annual "Classic Country" Mike O'Daniel Memorial Golf Tournament brought over 20 teams and 80 golfers to Country View Golf Course in Lancaster for an afternoon of fundraising.
The Waxahachie Indian baseball RBI Club hosts the tournament each October in memory of longtime KBEC personality and Waxahachie ISD athletics supporter, Mike O'Daniel.
Proceeds directly benefit WISD baseball, Historic Richards Park, The Mike O'Daniel Memorial Scholarship and The Dulin Brothers Memorial Scholarship.
"As always, the RBI Club is thankful for all of the community and alumni support," said RBI Club President Barry Navarro. "Without those donations and time, we wouldn't be able to provide scholarships to our seniors or keep Paul Richards Park one of the best in the state."
Navarro said the club was able to provide five scholarships to 2017 graduates.
— Longtime KBEC on-air personality Ken Roberts addressed the golfers before the annual Mike O'Daniel Memorial golf tournament. Roberts and O'Daniel shared the microphone for hundreds of Indian and Lady Indian ball games.
— Senior first baseman Ryan Allen spoke on behalf of the Waxahachie Indian baseball team. With his senior brethren flanking either side, Allen thanked those in attendance for their continued support of the program.
— The first place team was sponsored by Eagle National Steel. Anderson, Reece, Melton and Debow (pictured) shot a 50 on the part-70 course.
— Dubbed the "Class of 85," Hester, Sanchez, Green and Allen won a "hole-off" to break a three-way tie for third place with a 54 (-16). ... See MoreSee Less
